When portability isn't required, we recommend WinFOLIA systems based on high-resolution flatbed scanners. These devices produce high-quality images without lighting issues (such as uneven illumination). Unlike cameras, scanners have built-in permanent calibration and are very easy to use. We sell different models depending on their scanning area (the maximum sheet size they can scan), speed, and accuracy.

Portable Imaging and Calibration Kit (PICK)

Conventional, inexpensive digital cameras can also be used to acquire leaf images. Precautions should be taken to ensure calibration is performed accurately and quickly. To facilitate this task, we offer the Portable Imaging and Calibration Kit (PICK) for digital cameras.

PICK allows you to acquire images of leaves and other biological samples (needles, roots, etc.) in the field using a camera for analysis in Regent software (WinFOLIA, WinSEEDLE, WinCAM, etc.). This can be done in the field or in the laboratory.

It contributes in several ways to obtaining good images suitable for accurate automated analysis. The background offers good contrast with biological samples. The non-reflective translucent cover holds them firmly against the surface to avoid shadows and distorted measurements. Calibration targets allow you to perform quick and accurate calibration with a single click or automatically (to obtain measurements in the units of your choice (mm, cm, etc.).

The camera is held on a tripod (not included) with or without an extension arm and uses ambient light. To avoid confusion due to shutter pressure, we recommend triggering the camera using its self-timer, a remote control (an option for many camera models), or, if your camera has Wi-Fi, using a phone or tablet.

It comes with two backgrounds. One is optimized for color and morphology analysis (disease quantification, area by color, leaf or object area, etc.) using the Pro version of Regent software, and the other for more basic leaf (or object) area analysis and morphology (gray level analysis) using any of its programs.

The PICK is a good complement to our scanner-based systems that operate in the office.
